Embroidered Necklace - Arachne Spider

$40.00
sold out

Daring to challenge Athena at her weaving skills, Arachne was transformed into a spider, where she and her lineage would forever be recognized as the earth’s natural weavers.

This little spider is embroidered by hand on black cotton, set into a 1” wooden embroidery hoop pendant frame, and hangs from a 26.5” silver chain.

Spiders, though doomed to be often be ill-thought of, are symbols of creativity, creation and destruction—much like Athena herself. Spiders in dreams and encounters with spiders are often to urge you to create! To do what comes naturally to you, weaving your interests and things you love together because they are a part of you. The spider reminds us that those crochet hooks and yarn fit perfectly in your hand, the sketchbook is full of blank pages waiting for you, that your words and art are worthy of being made and being made by you.

Everything in life is connected—our experiences, memories, interactions, acquaintances, friendships, emotions make up a series of threads, all interlocking and weaving together to form what we call our sense of self, our identity. Athena, Goddess of War, Wisdom, and Crafts, even punished Arachne for daring to challenge her weaving abilities, and in this way, I believe that Athena embodies that connection of creation, battle, and learning that transforms into wisdom.

While everything I embroider represents a glimpse of my own experiences, as a reflection of the world around me and reflection of you, everything I make is a way that we connect ourselves to each other, learning from our mistakes, weaving strength in our identities, the things that we’ve destroyed, that have destroyed our past selves, and created something new.

Embroidery is my personal tribute to Athena, for the blessings and lessons that I’ve received and want to share, the strength I continue to gain as I war with my own limiting beliefs, and a way that I want to remind you that you are ever growing and shaping into a more beautiful and stronger version of you every day.
